Coyuchi Organics

If you're living in Los Angeles, chances are you've heard of Coyuchi Organics. With so many people embracing the green movement in an effort to do their part to stop global warming and the destruction of the environment, Coyuchi Organics has become a popular company to purchase linens from and for good reason, too.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Coyuchi Organics uses only 100% organically grown cotton to create their linens. Coyuchi Organics have been recognized for their environmentally friendly endeavors and received the United Nations Second Annual Fashion Industry Award for Environmental Excellence. Such a prestigious award is definitely well deserved by the people working at Coyuchi Organics.

Organic Bassinet Pad

There are some people in the Los Angeles area who probably don't see the big deal about global warming. They think the green movement is foolish or otherwise absurd. They can't see the damage being done to the environment on a daily basis. After all, Coyuchi Organics makes pillow cases, blankets, and the like. Surely, it can't be that big of a deal, right?

Wrong. When you're dealing with a crop like cotton, you are dealing with the potential for a huge environmental impact. Cotton is one of the most popular crops grown today. Nearly all fabrics that things like clothes and linens are made out of have cotton as an ingredient somewhere. Cotton also happens to be the most heavily sprayed crop in terms of pesticides and other chemicals. By refusing to use any pesticides or other chemicals on their cotton crops, Coyuchi Organics is having a huge positive impact on the environment.

In addition to reducing pollutants that are causing global warming, Coyuchi Organics is supporting local farmers. They receive their cotton from small farms, giving jobs to many farmers that would be forced out of work due to the heavy commercialization of farming around the world.

When you visit your favorite Los Angeles linen store to purchase Coyuchi Organics, you can rest assured that you are doing your part to end the environmental crisis that is facing our world today. Sleep well and have pleasant dreams while you snuggle under your new linens.

Unique Baby Shower Gift Ideas

Early on in the tradition, many guests made the gifts, adding a personalized touch to each gift they gave. Today, gifts still have a personal touch but more and more people are opting to buy gifts and then have the gifts personalized, rather than make the gift themselves.

Organic Bassinet Pad

In fact, in these modern times we have been going back to the more primitive, organic way of life. This is why organic baby products such as certified organic cotton clothing, bedding, or even BPA free baby bottles are a huge hit as baby shower gifts.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Picture frames and scrapbooking necessities are also a huge baby shower hit. These items arm the parents with everything they will need to show off their precious little one and keep each milestone and memory alive.

Nursery items such as Crib Fitted Sheets (a few orders of them), a comforter, bumper pads, a mobile, waterproof crib pads and mattress protector, and a blanket to swaddle the infant are all great gift choices. If you know the nursery room theme or color scheme, be sure to buy items that will match the décor of the room.

If your budget allows, go with a more expensive but very useful for the parents-to-be gift such as a stroller, bassinet, baby dresser, baby changing table, baby car seat high chair, baby swing or bouncy seat. Often these are the types of gifts are acceptable to get as a group. Everyone chips in to purchase top of the line high-end gifts that are definitely much needed.

Stuffed animals and educational toys are also great gift picks. Personalized baby toys are available at many specialty stores and online baby gift stores. Remember, when it comes to toys and games think ahead-the baby will not be an infant forever; choose educational toys and games that are for ages 6 to 9 months and even 12 to 18 months.

Bath items such as hooded towels, washcloths, baby lotion, shampoo, soap, baby brush, and bath toys are excellent items to group together in a baby gift basket-then the basket can be used by the mom in the future.

Do not forget the mom-to-be. A labor and delivery survival kit is a huge hit. On the baby shower invitations ask everyone to bring one item to contribute to the "Labor and Delivery Survival Kit". Some items are stop watch, slipper socks, headband, back massager, body lotion, lip balm, disposable camera, a contact list and of course a tote or bag large enough for all the goodies and a change of clothes. Stick some inspirational products in there as well, like a sentimental card of family photo. Think about after delivery as well. Include a gift certificate for a massage or manicure and pedicure at a local spa.

When trying to decide what to give as a baby shower gift, remember, personalized baby gifts add that extra touch and some are even passed on from generation to generation. It is truly wonderful to give a gift that you know will become a family heirloom.

Green Area Rugs - Safe, Soft and Eco Friendly Flooring Idea For Baby's Room

As home makers and house proud people already know, the advantages of purchasing modern green rugs are aplenty for various rooms and sections of the residence or even a home-office.

Organic Bassinet Pad

However, many hobby decorators so in tune with latest trends tend to miss out on the potential of seeking inspiration from the hottest green trends and thus fail to incorporate these special, soft and safe flooring options for their little angels' room. If you are a parent or caregiver to a little one, consider our nudge below - in the direction of revamping the nursery into a toddler's ideal play area, which would mean readying it up in time for your baby to sit up, start crawling then taking baby steps.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Now if this can be done with a safe, non-toxic, allergen-free flooring material underfoot for accommodating your baby's basic needs for all these activities, then wouldn't you just love to know about it?

So, stick with me to discover useful, practical and trendy tips for latest flooring ideas integrating green area rugs for baby's room, where to pick them from, in addition to what to avoid and why.

Interested in finding out what else super-soft, all-natural fiber crafted modern green area rugs can deliver for your baby's room in addition to the carefully picked matching baby room décor, Disney accessories, pastels and some of grandma's heirloom linens?

Then, it pays to learn that babies tend to have a mind of their own when it comes to choosing places they'd like to have their power naps in - yes, in addition to their regular beddy-bye times in your discerningly chosen high quality, child safety feature-rich, bassinet, cradle, bassinet, side car sleeper or even a designer crib, they looooove the floor!!

Floors - and other spaces that have parents throw up their hands in panic, chanting 'no,no,no' which babies, being selective listeners tend to tune out from hearing after the initial few minutes - seem to hold an irresistible attraction for babies and toddlers who can loll especially cutely on bare floors much to the dismay of hygiene conscious caregivers.

So, it's best to be prepared for giving in to baby's adventurous run across the floor!

Enter modern green area rugs - the super-soft, uber-cool and affordable flooring option (as compared to carpeting, wood floors, cork, linoleum etc) for giving a more snug look to your little one's room, rather than the tough resilience, expense and heavy maintenance required for concrete, vinyl, wall to wall carpets, tiled or granite floors).

The latest designs in throw rugs are easily available in small to large and even extra large sizes, besides a variety of shapes and nursery appropriate prints, weaves and colors, not to mention the added attraction of earth-friendly materials used for crafting these! Organic materials such as bamboo, sisal, sea-grass and more typically comprise the main components of modern area rugs and these materials makes hem free of harmful toxins available in synthetic dyes and fibers used in carpets and alternate flooring options that can kick up allergies or asthma in children besides full floor carpets tending to be difficult to vacuum or remove stains from, when spills occur, as they tend to frequently, in kiddy environments.

These are easily available in baby furnishing stores, green flooring shops, retailers of home furnishing items and can be even ordered from bed-linen catalogs or convenient online stores that offer a wide range of whimsical designs, shapes and colors that makes braided, plain or soft chenille, cotton or other natural materials for green area rugs a perfect flooring choice for baby's room.

Oh yes, don't forget to also pick up a non-slip pad for placing under the green area rug of your choice placed in baby's room to ensure the rug stays in place and baby is not only comfortable exploring its texture, color and softness - but safe too.

Home Made Baby Gifts

It is a popular custom to present some gift to the children, especially for new newborn babies. All children are happy when they get some gifts. There are plenty of fancy and high priced gifts available in baby shops. But a cherished gift to the babies is a home made baby gift basket. A typical gift basket contains several types of goodies. Also one can present a home made baby shower as a gift on certain special occasions. Usually baby showers are presented at the time of baptisms, christening or first birthday. For home made gifts, what reflects are the emotional attachment, time, and energy taken for making the gift, and certainly not the glamour and fancy of the usual baby gifts. Also, the way one presents such gifts to children is always remembered with fondness and emotion. Usually home made gifts are customized for the child and occasion, with printing the name of the baby and date with a suitable message. While printing or typing the name of the baby, one should always provide the correct spelling. Also, it should be made in such a way so as to reflect the sentiments and tastes of the person who presents the gift.

Organic Bassinet Pad

For home made gifts, especially gift baskets, the container should be attractive and well decorated. The basket can be decorated by silk ribbons and flowers. Diaper bag or laundry basket can be used for making the container. One should always remember that most babies cannot hold big size bags. So, a median size bag is ideal. Generally, home made baskets are made based on a theme. For example, one can present a home made gift basket having several useful goodies for the sleep of the kid. Normally home made gift bucket contains baby detergents, crib sheets, burp cloths, baby bottles, hairbrushes, and baby books. Also home made baby gift can be categorized as for boys and for girls. The gift basket for girls generally contains pink colored items; while the items in gift packet for boys is in blue color. There are plenty of websites that provide online coaching for making baby gifts at home. If you are interested, you can join some of the courses and can parade your craft of making baby gifts at home. If one is skilled in sewing, knitting, or quilting, one can easily make an attractive gift. Some of the gifts that can be made at home with some degree of the above-mentioned skills are diaper pads, baby dolls, baby hat, baby blanket, baby sweater, baby sling, and greeting card. Some other types of gifts that can be made at home with a bit more difficulty are hand painted picture frames and hand painted coat peg.

Baby Furniture - What Do You Really Need?

Walking into a baby furniture store can be completely mind blowing - there's so much stuff! Most of us don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend, and if you've never had a baby before, it can be really hard to work out what's really necessary, useful, or basically a waste of time. If you're planning to set up a gift register at the store, you want to make sure the things you put on it are useful and practical. It's can all be incredibly confusing.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Let's take a look at some of the main items you're going to find in the baby store, so that you can have some idea of what baby furniture you really want or need before you even get to the store. That way you can focus on picking exactly which one you want, rather than messing about deciding whether you actually want or need it.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Baby Bassinet or Cradle

A bassinet or cradle is used from birth until around 4 months. Basically, if the baby can roll from side to side, it's time for baby to move up into a crib. Make sure the mattress fits snugly against the sides. You may even find that a padded bumper, sheets and quilt are included.
The bassinet probably falls somewhere in the middle between necessary and unnecessary. If you're on a budget, you can certainly go without one. Having said that, I loved my bassinet and wouldn't have been without it. It's so convenient to be able to move baby around. I generally let baby sleep in his own room during the day, and used a baby monitor, then at night wheeled baby's bassinet into my room. Mine could be rocked gently to help baby fall asleep, and because it was up on a stand, it was easy to life baby in and out - I was recovering from a caesarean.

So my advice would be - if you can fit a bassinet into your budget, do it. Perhaps it's an item that a few friends or family could buy for your baby shower.

Baby Crib or Cot

Some sort of secure bed for baby is definitely required. Spending a fortune buying one isn't required! You can buy cribs in a massive range of styles - with a huge range of price tags to match. Probably the main thing to look for is to make sure the crib adheres to the required safety standards. Check that the mattress fits snugly against the sides of the crib. Some other helpful features are: an adjustable base height, a couple of release mechanisms (not just one, in case baby learns how to do it!), lockable wheels, and no stickers that can be peeled off easily.

Crib Mattress

Many cribs include their own mattress, and that's probably the best option because it should fit the crib snugly. There are two types of mattress - inner spring/coil or foam. Generally, the innerspring style of mattress will last much longer, but is usually a little more expensive. It's worth buying some sort of waterproof mattress pad, to protect the mattress, but make sure it doesn't have any plastic on the side the baby will be sleeping on.

Bedding Accessories

This is an area where you can start to spend some serious dollars! It's very easy to get carried away with all the cute and gorgeous designs for baby bedding. Thankfully most cribs and bassinets use standard sizes, which makes things a little easier. One good strategy is to buy the necessary basics yourself, then put all the less necessary accessories on your baby shower gift register. Apart from the basic sheets, I've always liked to have a bumper for the top end of baby's bed - and make sure it ties on in multiple places, so more than one tie has to break before it can fall down. You should never use a pillow for baby, and even quilts or comforters aren't recommended - stick to ordinary blankets. You can also often get added extras, such as diaper stackers. Personally I've never found them of much use, but again, some of the extra might make good baby shower gifts.

Changing Table

If you're really strapped for cash, then you can probably make do with using your bed as a changing table, but if you can, this is something I highly recommend. Your back will certainly prefer it! My changing table was actually more like a set of dresser drawers, and nowadays, with the changing table part removed, it's still being used as drawers for my daughter's clothes. So it pays to think ahead and buy a changing table that's practical. Also look for safety features, such as guardrails and perhaps even safety straps. And of course it needs to be well padded! It's handy to have some sort of shelf where you can put items you're using, but personally I just put them down one end of the changing table and changed baby at the other end. Once baby got bigger, I used the top drawer.

Rocking Chair

This is definitely on the "maybe" list. A lot of women swear by them, but personally I never had one and it never bothered me in the slightest. So this is going to come down to personal preference and your budget. Having said that, you will need a comfortable chair to sit in, particularly if you're nursing your baby.

Portable Crib

This is one piece of baby furniture that got used a lot in my household! My son used to come to work with me when he was little, and I used a portable crib for his naps. It was great when I went to visit family and friends, because baby was familiar with it and happy to have a nap when the time came. I also didn't have to worry about baby rolling off someone's bed. It meant that we could go on holidays and know that baby had somewhere safe and familiar to sleep. I used mine so much that I ended up having to buy a second one when my daughter came along! It's important, though, to spend some time making sure the portable crib you choose is well constructed and safe. Make sure it can't collapse easily, particularly if baby tries to climb out. Check there are no small spaces where fingers could get trapped, and a collapsible padded base is very helpful.

High Chair

A high chair rates very close to the essential end of the scale. The good news is that you don't need one straight away, so you can put off buying it until quite a few months after baby is born. Look for an adjustable tray, restraints of some kind and perhaps even lockable rolling casters. Some models also have a reclining seat, so you can use it even when baby is still bottle feeding.

Car Seat

This is definitely essential - apart from ensuring your baby's safety, you're breaking the law in most places if you don't have one. Newborns must travel in the back seat of the car, facing the rear. Once baby is older, usually closer to 1 year old, you can place baby in a forward facing car seat. When your child is older again, anywhere from 2 years upwards depending on their size, you can change over to a booster seat.
The major decision you'll have here is whether to buy separate, specially designed car seats for baby and then your toddler, or whether to buy a convertible model. Personally I always had 2 separate car seats, mostly because all the consumer safety research I'd seen suggested that a specifically designed car seat was more effective in an accident. Thankfully I never tested that theory out! Construction and safety levels are constantly improving, however, so if buying a convertible model is where your budget is, that's okay too.

Strollers

This is another baby item where there seems to be too many choices. First you have to decide which style of stroller you want, before even looking at individual brands. At some point you are going to want to transport your baby, so you will need to buy something. You need to start by having a long, hard think about what you expect your movements to be with your baby. Do you plan to take baby jogging with you? Go over rougher terrain regularly? Or will you probably only put baby in a stroller at the shops? Do you want a pram that can later be converted into a stroller?
Once you have an idea what type of things you'll need to use your stroller for, a salesperson at the baby store should be able to guide you in the right direction. You then need to think about what added features you might like - accessory bars, toy and activity bars, headrests, adjustable height, rain shields etc.
Choosing the right stroller is probably going to take you a while!

Baby Monitor

A baby monitor probably isn't necessary, but I always found it was great for peace of mind. It meant I could be off in another part of the house doing something, but still be monitoring my baby's nap. Prices vary a lot, but it's probably better to choose your monitor based on the features you're going to need, rather than price. If you're going to move around a lot, make sure your monitor is portable. Do you want batteries or mains power? Do you want video monitoring as well?

Bouncer Seat

Again, this isn't necessary, but it's very useful! Babies love to watch everything that's going on around them, and it's much easier for them if they're raised slightly from the horizontal. You can buy all sorts of fancy bouncer seats, with everything from toy bars to battery operated bouncing. I only ever had a very basic fabric bouncer, and most of the time the toy bar wasn't even attached. Both my kids loved them, and the good thing was that I always knew where they were! Very handy, particularly when I was cooking dinner. The main thing to remember is that you should NEVER place a bouncer seat on a raised surface, they should always be placed on the floor or ground.

Beginners Guide to Baby Gifts

Baby gifts can either be easy and fun or a nightmare to shop for. The difference is usually made by the experience of the shopper and how well they know the needs of baby's and new parents.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Mum's typically love to shop for baby gifts as they know exactly what they needed or would have liked. Yet many shoppers aren't Mum's or Dad's. Maybe a work colleague has just had a baby or the boss has just asked you to get a baby gift for an important client?

Organic Bassinet Pad

There's nothing more exciting than a new life coming into the world and picking the right gift is a fabulous way to celebrate an event. An appropriate baby gift is cherished and appreciated buy the parents like no other gift.

There are many wonderful baby gifts to choose from, and some that are probably better left on the shelves.

Practical baby goods are great starting point. Choosing practical items means picking items that are both wanted and needed. Large items like baby cribs, bassinets, high chairs, strollers and car seats are all wonderful baby gifts, even if they are rather expensive and bulky. However they are best left for close family members to buy, as they know exactly what is needed and wanted.

Smaller baby gifts that are both practical and desired include clothing, nappies, feeding supplies (bottles for a formula feeding mother, shields, creams and pillows for a breastfeeding mother) and travel gear (visors for car windows, baby viewing mirrors, even shopping cart covers).

Clothing is always a good idea. All babies need clothes - and lots of them! New parents are amazed by the quantity of clothes and nappies they need on a daily basis. Of course baby clothes are available in abundance at all stores that carry children's clothing. However gift sets, baby hampers or even Baby Buds make for far more imaginative presentation to give clothing a bit of "wow" factor.

Toys are another good choice for baby gifts. Plush toys that are made for a baby's small hands to grab onto are a wonderful choice. Stuffed animals, rattles, "lovey" blankets with tags and different texture, and attachments for car seats and strollers are made in a variety of styles, materials and affordable.

Googling search phrases such as "baby gifts", "baby hampers" or "unique baby gifts" in your area will uncover many valuable ideas and suppliers. Some gift companies can deliver the same day and most can deliver next day.

Baby Registry Checklist - What You Really Need

So you are having a baby, now comes the whirlwind of figuring out what you need. You look up checklist and window shop baby stores only to be overwhelmed with all of the products, some of which you may not even know what they are! Most first time parents are on a tight budget and with the price of many baby products you need to figure out what is a necessity and what is a luxury.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Don't worry; here is a checklist of what you really need on the first day, what you can wait on and what you will not use at all!

Organic Bassinet Pad

• Car seat - This is the most important thing because you will have to have it to bring the baby home. For the best deal you can purchase a Travel System. A travel system comes with a car sear base, carrier, and stroller. The stroller will allow you to put the carrier in to use as a newborn and then by itself as they grow.

Nursery:

• Crib, Cradle, Bassinet - If you have a nursery for your baby, you may want them close to you for a while. If so, you will need some sort of cradle or bassinet. If this is the case you can save for a crib if needed. If you are living in a small space you may want to just get a crib and forget the smaller bed. When looking for a Crib, think about getting a converter bed. Either 3 in 1, which will go to a toddler/daybed, or 4 in 1, that goes to first a toddler/daybed and then a full size will get you the most use. Whatever you choose you will need to put the baby in something when you get home.

• Dresser and Changing Table - These are both handy but the changing table is not a necessity. If you do choose to buy these you can get a changing table that you can turn into a bookshelf later. Nursery 101 is a brand that you can buy a 3 in 1 Crib, Dresser, and Changing Table all together for a very reasonable price. It can be cheaper than some cribs by themselves.

• Rocking Chair - This is not something that you need right off and if at all. Yes it may be convenient to have but do not have to have it. They can be expensive and you might not use it that long.

• Nursery Decor - When I say this I mean bedding set with crib skirt, bumpers and comforter. Each person has to decide what price range they would like to spend on this; the range can be very wide so shop around. Keep in mind that this might be something that you can reuse again, but don't break the bank if you need to buy a lot of items. If you are going to have the baby in your bedroom for a bit you may a little wiggle room on buying this but keep in mind that with a newborn you will have less free time, you don't want to leave everything to the last minute.

• Mobile - Usually the mobile does not come with the bedding set & this will be bought separately. You can wait on this if the baby will be in cradle or bassinet first.

• Night Light - This not something you will need until you have, at best, a toddler. By then the room may have completely different dcor. If you want one to have just a little light for middle of the night changes and feedings go with a lamp. You will have not only a light but also decoration.

• Mattress - Make sure when you buy this the measurements match those of the crib, you don't want cracks around the edges. Again you will have a wide price range with this.

• Sheets - Whether you have a crib, cradle, bassinet, or two of these you need sheets. You should have three sheets so that if one is washing another is on the bed and then if that one is wet you have another.

• Mattress Pad - These can come in a pack of two and that would be enough.

• Blankets - You don't have to go crazy with these, but you have two types that you will need. You will need receiving blankets to swaddle the baby for a little while when you come home, a good number would be a week's worth. You want to have enough so that you are not rushing to do more laundry than necessary. The other type of blanket you might want would be a "baby" blanket. This is more of a soft cute blanket, maybe with the baby's name on it. These can also be used when taking the baby outside, depending on weather. You may want to get one to use to carry with you and if you like, one for his room. You can end up with too many blankets so be careful.

• Swaddle Wrap - If you would rather use a wrap to swaddle than receiving blankets then you will need this. Remember that when deciding how many you will need that the blankets will be cheaper. Also if you learn how to properly swaddle the wrap is not needed.

• Monitor - You will have to decide what you want depending on budget and comfort level. The prices can range anywhere from about to around 0. You can go for one with video or just one receiver. Also remember that if the baby is going to be in your room you will not need this until the he is in his own room, unless you need one for naps.

Feeding: When deciding what you need for feeding you will have to think about whether or not you will breast or bottle feed.

• Bottles - Even if you breastfeed you need to go ahead and have a few bottle handy. You do not know how breastfeeding will work out. You might have to either supplement with formula or pump and bottle feed. If either of these circumstances occurs, you do not want to be without bottles. If you decide to use Playtex Bottles you will also need liners.

• Nipples - You might want to think about buying extra nipples for the bottles you bought.

• Bottle Sterilizer - This is not necessary, you can sterilize in a pot on the stove. For everyday just make sure you wash in hot water and soap.

• Bottle Warmer - This also is not necessary, when you need to warm a bottle you can do it at the sink with hot water.

• Bottle Rack - This is a good idea because even if you have a dish rack, these are specifically made to hang bottles, nipples, pacifiers, even the bottle brush.

• Bottle Brush - You need this because they are made to get in the nipples and bottles that are hard to clean.

• Breast Pump - These are expensive, so make sure you are sure of the brand and type you want before you purchase. They range in price and also in performance. The most popular brand is Medela; they have a wide price range to choose from. Also you can check with the Lactation Consultant that the hospital for information on renting one. If you plan on breastfeeding and will be going back to work, you will need one to start pumping soon to build up a supply.

• Storage Bags - If you are pumping you will need storage bags.

• Nursing Pillow - This is not necessary but nice to have, it is good for both nursing & bottle feeding. You can also you this as a little seat to prop baby up on. Be sure to get extra slip covers.

• Formula - Check first with the pediatrician to see what to buy. You should not buy a lot just in case you have to switch formulas.

• Highchair - You will not need this until about 4 months when you might start on some solids like cereal. Like many, you may be worried about space for a high chair, but you can get a Space Saver chair that fits onto a chair.

• Bibs - You will need these not only when you start baby on solids, but you might also want to start using them when the baby starts teething, because of the access saliva. You will need a good number of these, at least two a day.

• Pacifier - Go ahead and get different kids with different shapes, you do not know what kind the baby will like.

Diapering:

• Diapers - Go ahead and start buying now, but make sure that you get a variety of sizes. Babies do not stay in the newborn size for very long.
• Wipes - You can start buying these too, you will go through these fast.
• Rash Cream - You will need only one or two tubes of this.
• Diaper Bag - You might want to get two, one bigger for longer trips, and another small one that can be used all other times. If you need to only purchase one, I would suggest getting a smaller one; you will not want to lug the big one everywhere.
• Trash Can - Many will invest in a Diaper Genie, but you can get by with just a trash can with a top. Just make sure you take the trash out!

Bathing and Health:

• Bath Tub - You can get by without one of these for a few weeks. This is because until the umbilical cord falls off you, you will not submerge it in water. Rather than that you would sponge bath.
• Wash Cloths - You don't need too many of these because a baby does not need a bath every day. A weeks worth should be fine.
• Hooded Towels -You should be fine with about three.
• Baby Wash and Shampoo - You can get a Head to Toe wash and that will cover both. You should first start with fragrance free for baby's skin.
• Baby Oil - You will not need this much either buy when you need it or just go with a small bottle.
• Vaseline - This is needed if you have a baby boy who was circumcised.
• Rubbing Alcohol - You will need this if your pediatrician recommends it for the umbilical cord.
• Baby Q-tips - One box will be plenty.
• Nasal Aspirator - You will need one of these on the first day.
• Baby brush and Comb - You can either buy these separately or in a kit with other grooming products.
• Baby Nail Clippers - They are smaller & can also be purchased in a kit.
• Baby Thermometer - This is another product that will range in price and a few different choices. You can go with a pacifier, rectal, underarm, oral, ear or forehead.
• Humidifier - You don't have to get one right off, but this is a great thing to have with cold and allergies. You have a many choices, filter or no filter, high or low mist, cool or warm.

Safety Items:

• Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms - These are general safety items that you should already have.
• Gates, Locks, Outlet Cover - You don't really have to worry about any of these until you have a crawler.

Other Miscellaneous item:

None of these are really a necessity, but you will get use out of them.

• Bouncer Seat - This is a wonderful thing. You want to have a place to set the baby during the day.
• Swing - Same thing as the bouncer seat, you will want places to set and soothe baby. You can either get both the swing and/or seat separately or you can now get a 2 in 1 product.
• Activity Mat - These are meant for small babies with overhead toys. You can choose between prices and sizes to suite you.
• Walker and Jumper - You will not use these until baby is much bigger. You may not also want both of these.
• Baby Seat - You will start to use these when they get good enough head control. The big brand is Bumbo and you have to purchase a tray separately. Another brand is Summer Infant Super Seat; it comes with a tray for snacks with toys attached and also turns into a booster seat.
• Picture frames - You can get these with spaces for each month or hand and foot prints.
• Baby Book/Scrapbook - Although it is not a necessity, it is something you will want to get.

Clothes:

These will be up to you how much you want or need, just remember what season it will be when picking sizes. Also if you are having a shower, expect lots of clothes.

Mother's Needs:

Most forget to tell new mother what they will need after birth, these items are not glamorous but they will be needed and you will be glad that you don't have to send someone out for them.

• Breast Pads - Even if you are not breast feeding you will need some.
• Nursing Bra and Nipple Cream - If you are Breastfeeding
• Stool Softeners, Pads, Witch Hazel Pads - All for your comfort

It is a long list but babies are a lot of work and completely worth it. If you plan on having more than one child you might want to think about buying some item in a neutral color. Make sure that if you are going to be on a tight budget and someone will be throwing you a shower that you register for what you need. It is very easy to get caught up when registering and scan things that you will never use. A lot of people will not use your registry but for the ones that do, they will know exactly what you need. Others may not shop off of it but may look at it to get ideas. Some mothers like to wait until after the shower to buy up what they did not get; this is a great way to avoid more returns. If you do start to shop before, make sure you keep receipts in case you get a double. Don't be afraid to take thing back, most people would rather you get something you need and can get use from, rather than having twenty blankets you will never use.

I hope my list is helpful!

How to Optimize Newborn's Safety Using Baby Bassinet Or Co-Sleeper

All parents want to create a cozy, safe, and secure bedroom for their newborn. Infant's safety is number one concern for new parents when they bring new baby home. Approximately one or two newborns out of every one thousand die in their sleep, for no apparent reason, and diagnosis is the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome- SIDS.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Always remember about safety, when leaving your baby alone for a nap or sleep:

Organic Bassinet Pad

- place your baby always face up for sleeping,
- never add more extra mattress padding,
- never cover the mattress with a plastic bag,
- never use pillows of any kind and size in the bassinet or co-sleeper,
- don't use baby poppers (wedges), usually firm bolsters, some made in a triangular shape, these can be just as dangerous as pillows. Simply laying your baby on his back should be sufficient. Baby's neck can be captured over the edge of the proper and block airways.
- don't use any kinds of bed warmers, like electric blankets, heating pads or warm water bottles in baby's bed. A baby's skin is extremely sensitive to heat, and your child can be burned by temperatures that would seem comfortable to an adult.

Newborn's main activity is napping and sleeping. From birth to 6 months old they sleep 10-18 hours each day. Creating a safe and cozy bedroom is so important.

- Crib or bassinet location is a very important part of the infant's bedroom.

The center of the room is a safe crib spot, protecting baby from reaching out to pull anything down from walls, furniture, or windows. Since you will be leaving your baby for a long time in the nursery, you'll want her or him to be safe,

- keep wall hangings with ribbons or streamers out of reach of the crib. Blind cords can strangle babies in cribs,
- regularly check crib bars and hardware,
- purchase window locks or guards.

Position the baby in a corner of the crib or bassinet, head touching the bumper or soft padding to provide a feeling of security. Infants may feel overwhelmed and not secure in big, traditional cribs. Infants feel much better in smaller beds, like baby bassinets or co-sleepers. Both are recommended for newborns up to age of 6 months.

1. Co-sleepers or bedside sleepers are designed for newborns and nursing infants. They allow baby to sleep in his own protected, small area adjoining your bed. The sleeper fits flush against the side of your bed, at the same height as your mattress, with an open side next to your bed allowing easy access to the baby.

2. Bassinets and cradles are also small sleeping beds that offer a nest for newborn near the parent's bed.

They present an alternative to putting your newborn into a large crib but are meant to use only in the first few months of baby's life. You'll have your infant close by for multiple nighttime feedings and diaper changes. All small babies also seem more at home in a confined space then in a large, airy crib. These wheeled baby beds take up little space and can be rolled easily from one room to another.

Different Types of Bassinets

A bassinet or bassinette is a bed specifically for babies from birth to about four months, and small enough to provide a secure comfortable resting place for newborns and young infants. These are smaller than regular size cribs. There are many variations: light and portable types are sometimes called "Moses baskets", there are the stand-alone bassinets, co-sleeper bassinets and the portable bassinets. Cradles are less portable and may have rocking motion capability.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Bassinets are generally designed to allow the resting baby to be carried from place to place, to be close to its mother. Bassinets are often raised on a stand or other surface to reduce back strain when bending over to tend the baby, and wheeled frames to convert a bassinet into a baby carriage are common. Light and portable types are sometimes called Moses baskets. A co-sleeper bassinet allows baby to have their own sleeping space close to the mother's bed. One side of the bassinet is lower than the other and that is the side that should attach to the side of the mother's bed, so the mother can be close to the baby. Portable bassinets can be moved from room to room where mother is so she can watch the baby.

Organic Bassinet Pad

Most bassinets come with detachable hoods, a hood that is detachable or that folds back is preferable. Many bassinets come with wheels for the convenience of moving the infant from room to room, or with fold-able legs for saving space.
The mattress pad should fit securely without any gap between the mattress and the edge of the bassinet. A firm mattress is safer for the baby regarding suffocation risks.

Bassinets should not have any sharp or rough edges, should have a stable footing, any folding mechanism should lock securely in place. Most bassinets have extra storage space at the base and wheels that make it easier to move them from room to room. The wheels should have locking mechanism for stability when not in use. Cradles can be rocked as the babies enjoy the soothing, rocking motion and fall asleep. To ensure baby's safety, most cradles have locking pins that prevent the cradle from tilting to an angle greater than 5 degrees. Cradles should lock into a stationary position when required. The standard cradle size is 18" x 36".
